DESCRIPTION:

This advanced level softball hitting clinic will be led by the Saint Francis University coaching staff.

This clinic is open to softball players graduating in grades 8-12.

*PLEASE NOTE - This is an instructional and recruiting camp.

This clinic will have a limited number of spots per session, so please register early!

There will be NO walk-up registrations accepted. Be sure to register early!

HITTING

The coaching staff has substantial experience training athletes in the application of advanced concepts including biomechanics and functional anatomy. The staff has spent hundreds of hours studying video of elite softball hitters and applies this knowledge on the field with hitters of all ages and levels. Hitters attending this clinic will be learning the swing that is being taught at the top levels of college softball!

The schedule will be broken down as follows:

  • Intro to hitting philosophy

  • Hitting skill work

  • Hitting cage work; measurement & video

  • Live hitting off pitchers

PITCHING

In the advanced Pitching session, we will focus on fastballs and change-ups for the first part of of the session. Drills will be geared toward pitching mechanics, speed, and location.

The second part of the session will be devoted to developing other pitches including drop, rise, curve, screw.  Pitchers will focus on developing the pitches that best match their level of ability.

The final portion of the camp will focus on drills and exercises specifically geared toward developing overall pitching strength and power.

If pitchers stay for the hitting session, they will also throw live to batters.

Pitchers do not need to bring a catcher.

CATCHING

In our Advanced Catching Session, athletes will receive high-level instruction designed to refine every aspect of their defensive craft behind the plate. We’ll emphasize receiving techniques to present the low pitch and manage the strike zone effectively, footwork patterns for quick and efficient movement on throws and blocks, and transfer mechanics that create consistency and accuracy under pressure.
Campers will also work on arm slot development to improve velocity and accuracy across different throwing situations, and blocking drills that enhance reaction time, control, and recovery.

INFIELD/OUTFIELD

Our Infield Defensive Session instruction will focus on receiving and exchange skills for clean, consistent fielding, footwork rhythm to maximize range and timing, and transfer speed to create quicker release times. Campers will learn how to make plays from multiple arm slots and body positions, mastering the ability to throw accurately on the move. Situational drills will cover double-play feeds and turns, slow rollers, backhands, forehands, and on-the-run throws.

The Outfield Defensive Session will help athletes develop the instincts and athleticism necessary to dominate the outfield. Campers will work on drop-step angles, and route efficiency to improve first-step quickness and overall coverage. We’ll also emphasize receiving and exchange mechanics for both ground balls and fly balls to reduce transition time and arm slot work for long, accurate throws to each base.
